Carol Service 2000

carols 2000

On the 10th of December 2000 we held our annual Carols by Candlelight service. This service has grown in importance within the Church calendar and in numbers over the past five or six years. Last year for the first time we had to hold two services (at 4:30 and 8pm) in order to ensure that everyone could attend. The images on this page were taken by Ian Futter using long lenses and exposures (to avoid using a flash in the darkened church) most of the photos were taken from the Balcony.

The first reading was taken from John chapter 1 and involved all the readers who would appear during the rest of the service (not all shown at this point).

This shows the choir shortly after arriving at the front, still carrying the candles.

David used to comment that with the Choir sitting around his feet he felt like
Val Doonican, so we mocked up this image for a cheap laugh - which it got :-)

Then David showed everyone in the Church where the fire exits were, so . . . .

Back to the serious side of the service, for two years we have
been using this three screen display to show images, videos
and words in order to enhance the readings and add an
extra dimension to the service.

The readings this year involved a number of readers with an Angel appearing in the pulpit regularly
and various voices off stage. Bill does look like he is finishing off a song here but it is a reading.

The closing song was a solo of "This Child" composed for the service by Euan Drysdale and sung by Alex.

We don't have any pics from behind the scenes of the readers
or computer operators, but we do have these pictures of
Jenny conducting the Choir (or at least we assume that is
what she is doing) . . .
