Staff Team & Vestry

David McCarthy - Rector [gadgetvicar blog]
David David David David

David McCarthy was born in Ayrshire where he worked in a whisky-bottling factory, before studying theology in Edinburgh. He was also employed for several years in a job where he had to wear a seagull costume, which he reckons prepared him for life in the ministry!(?). He came to faith in Jesus in 1980, was ordained in 1988 and has served at St. Silas since 1995. He likes movies, music and gadgets. He is married to Abby and they have three children, Matthew (born 1991), Caitlin (1994) and Molly (1996).

Cathy Brodie - Director of Pastoral Care

Cathy Cathy has been Pastoral Assistant at St Silas since 1997. Prior to that she has been a member here for a number of years while teaching at Glasgow High School. Cathy was my housegroup leader when I first stumbled into this faith thing and is a truly faithful servant of Christ.

Ruth Davison- Administrator (contact or all church bookings and enquiries - 0141 337 2276)

Ruth started in the post of administrator in January 2004 and has been attending St Silas since 1992. She is married to Alan and has 3 children. Her hobbies include all kinds of arts and crafts, in particular watercolour painting and she also enjoys running and cycling.

Jenny Cheung - Music Coordinator

Jenny Jenny Jenny first came to Glasgow in 1996 to study flute at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She began attending St. Silas straight away and, after graduating in 2000, was employed as worship co-ordinator. Jenny married Gordon in 2002 (hence the Chinese name on a very non-Chinese face...), and Joshua was born in May 2003. She enjoys cleaning the bathroom, doing the washing, changing dirty nappies, and is a fully qualified aerobics instructor (only one of the previous is true).

Lorraine & Darren joined the staff team in 2002 to share the post of taking care of our growing Children's and Youth ministries.

The Vestry

The Vestry of St Silas is the group that makes the decisions for the church as a whole. It is made up of members of the congregation who are elected at the ABM to serve for a maximum of 6 years (two terms of 3 years). The Vestry meet for prayer once a month and for business once a month (i.e. a meeting every two weeks, which isn't bad considering the amount of work they get through for us all).

Here are various pictures of vestry members mostly during away days, to find out who the current vestry members are check out the noticeboard on the way into church. If you have any communications for vestry they can be directed through the church administrator.
