Small Groups

We aim to be not just a church with Small Groups, but a church OF Small Groups, which encourage Belonging, Believing and Being salt and light.

Home Groups (a.k.a. House Groups, Small Groups, etc.)
These are an excellent way of getting to know people and beginning to feel part of what can seem a rather large and bewildering church. They provide a place where we can be who we really are with our struggles, questions, hopes, temptations - and have the friendship and support of others in the group. They are a place where we hope there will be spiritual growth, where we will be equipped and encouraged to be clear and confident witnesses for Jesus Christ and we can see how to contribute and serve in the wider church and beyond.

Through study of the Bible and other devotional books, we try to tease out what it means to be a follower of Jesus in our daily lives. We bear one another's burdens . We pray for one another; we offer practical help where required. We socialise, eat together, go away for weekends, walks, concerts, etc. We serve together in the church and further afield.

Cathy co-ordinates the home groups, so get in touch with her if you would like more information about this.

Music Groups
We are fortunate to have a number of talented musicians within the congregation who are organised into various groups. Each has its own 'flavour' and style of worship. Jenny is the worship co-ordinator for St Silas and I'm sure she would welcome any feedback or suggestions on the type of worship within the church.

Contact Jenny if you want to get involved.

Youth Meetings

"Supporting parents and contributing to the learning, worship and holistic growth of children... helping them to grow as faithful followers of Jesus." -is what the Children's and Youth work at St Silas is all about.

Powerhouse, our Sunday morning children's worship and learning slot, is split into the following groups:

  • 1a - 0 to 12 months; 1b - 13 to 30 months
  • 2 - 2.5 years to preschool
  • 3a - Primary 1 to 3; 3b - Primary 4 to 6
  • 4 - Primary 7 to Secondary 2

Older young people can get involved in the Youth Fellowship and/or Youth Cell, depending on age and interest. We also have various youth outreach initiatives which are detailed elsewhere on the web site.

Child Protection Policy Statement

"As the church of St Silas, we commit ourselves to the nurturing, protection and safekeeping of all, especially children and young people...."

All children's work within the church is governed by our Child Protection Policy and all those who work with children need to undergo specific training in this. Ask staff for details.
